Stack, road, food, and the god Troian

The god Troian in old Slavic mythology, is represented as a peasant deity who protects the fertility of the fields. Note also a typical detail: the baking and distribution of cakes with the wish that the harvest will be equally bountiful every year. It was an important element of the ritual at the harvest festival in honour of Svantevit on the island of Rügen. The core meanings of the Romanian word troian are ‘heap’, ‘road’, ‘track’. How does one arrive at naming ‘stacks’, ‘heaps’, ‘roads’ and ‘trails’ by the name of a deity? Presumably because certain heaps of stone or earth, conspicuous traces along paths and roads, were perceived by the pagans as divine manifestations, as sacred focal points.
